Simply heal yourself - Part 2

So, in our last post we said we’d come back with more DIY remedies for relief from pain and discomfort. These suggestions are not meant to replace your physician’s prescriptions; they simply tell you of alternative, harmless ways of taking care of yourself with ingredients that are most likely available right in your own home.

DIY for a sinus infection?

DIY is a wonderful way to feel well, especially when it’s simple and done with safe, easy-to-find ingredients. Sinus infection comes causes inflammation in your nasal passages giving you that awful headache, sneezing, congestion and discomfort. You can easily ease this discomfort right at home!

You and I know that sipping hot liquids provides a lot of relief from stuffy sinuses. Get better relief with hot water mixed with organic apple cider vinegar and a few drops of honey. The idea is to thin down the mucous that is clogging your nasal passages and clear them so you can breathe better. Apple cider vinegar is especially good for this.

You’ll also benefit from steam inhalation with a little eucalyptus oil, and by adding a lot of garlic to your diet.

Painful wisdom teeth?

Getting wiser is just not simple, is it? Well, try these to ease the pain and swelling when you your wisdom tooth is cropping up.

  • Use an ice pack
  • Apply clove oil
  • Dip a tea bag in hot water and place it between your gum and cheek
  • Rub baking soda gently into your gum; it reduces sensitivity and other painful sensations.

So many of us have a tendency to reach for that pill or syrup to feel better, but before you the manufactured chemicals, see what you can find at home to heal yourself. Of course, it goes without saying that, if symptoms persist, you must consult your doctor and not rely only on what is suggested here.

Bad breath

Halitosis or bad breath can be caused by medical factors or medication you are on. It can also be caused by a variety of reasons including poor hygiene and Sjögren’s syndrome or Dry Mouth. You may not even be aware that you have bad breath until someone tells you. But once you do become aware, here are a few handy tips to fight the problem:

  • Maintain good dental hygiene
  • Visit your dentist for regular checks.
  • Cleanse your tongue, brush your teeth, and floss, floss, floss
  • Stay hydrated – drink at least 8 eight-ounce glasses of water a day as this will thin your saliva and relieve your mouth of dryness.
  • Chew gum or mints to stimulate saliva.
  • Sip tea (never mind what colour it is!) – and chew on a pod of cardamom. These zaps odour-causing bacteria in your mouth
